For the past 37 years I have practiced psychotherapy and hypnotherapy in a variety of professional forms. Some are by my own design. Specialties of my practice include child discipline, marital relationships, and grief and loss therapy.
Educated by the Jesuits, all three of my formal academic degrees are from the University of Detroit Mercy where I graduated in 1968 (B.A. Cum Laude), 1970 (Master of Arts), and 1973 (Doctor of Philosophy). These diplomas are all in related forms of the academic discipline of psycholinguistics. The science which studies the relationship between language and other forms of human behavior, it provided strong training the profession of talk therapy. I read in five languages. In 1975 after two years of post-doctoral studies at The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, I taught in the Center for Programmed Learning in the emerging field of Neuro-Linguistic Programming.
I have written a number of books on the subject of child discipline and marriage. Some of these are still in print and now may be ordered directly from me. Because of the popularity of these books and my ability to emotionally connect with audiences, I have lectured all over the world. My late wife and I were blessed to have traveled to more than twenty countries throughout the 1980s and meet some truly remarkable people including United States Presidents and other world leaders. For years I was a frequent speaker for the Young Presidents' Organization and because of its remarkable support I was able to share my professional energies with many influential families and leaders around the world. In the 1980s, I appeared on Good Morning America, Good Morning LA, and The Charlie Rose Program.
Today, in my mid sixties, I infrequently travel to lecture or conduct seminars. I do remain on call by telephone doing what I call the "Emotional Emergency Room." This work is to provide immediate emotional help while helping a patient find the most effective psychotherapist near home.
